first, exhale
This is SansSouci Palatina, a former monastery mill in Klingenmünster, a charming village in the Palatinate wine region of South Germany. It has a long history as a retreat for women. The rooms are quiet and the light is good. It hasn't been used in a while. We're opening it again — and we need people to help bring it back to life.
The reception and lounge — the first room you enter, and where people gather morning, noon, and evening. This room needs someone with an eye for furniture and light: a space that puts people at ease the moment they walk in.
The kitchen and dining hall. The kitchen is ready for many hands. The dining hall is already fit for a feast, with a glass roof and trees outside every window. Whoever cooks here feeds everyone living, working, and staying in the house.
why now
We're reopening this hotel after it sat unused for some time. The building itself is in good shape — what it needs now is life: people in the rooms, food in the kitchen, hands in the garden. What we have is space, food, and a clear vision for what this place can become.
The garden is full of life — fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, and a tree house built around a living oak. The paths need walking. It needs loving hands: someone with green fingers, who knows that tending a garden tends you too, would have plenty to do here, at their own pace.
Welcoming to all genders, sexualities, and relationship structures.
Everyone who stays gets their own room — somewhere quiet to rest after the day.*

how it works
You take loving action for four hours each morning. In exchange, you get your own room and two meals. The rest of the day is free — spend time in the garden, create, rest, or use the designated tech room if you need to work remotely. We'd love this to be a home for artists and writers in residence too — if that calls to you, you're welcome here.
Garden
Loving action in the garden. Getting your hands dirty, deep in the root. Tending to the veggie patch and the fruit trees, tidying paths, and bringing the garden back to life.
Kitchen
Loving action in the kitchen. Stoking the fires of the belly of the place. Cooking and preparing shared meals for everyone in the house, and helping organise the big, well-equipped kitchen.
Space & Flow
An eye for space and flow. Setting up main spaces so they are calm, welcoming, and ready for people to create.
Tell us which of these calls to you — and/or what you'd like to offer instead.

info@sanssoucicollection.comthe practical bit
Sanssouci Palatina at the former Stiftung Keysermühle is being reopened as a FLINTA-led retreat hotel. All who come here, in whatever role, are part of its creation. We ask that the openness of this space be met with equal care for it and for one another.
In exchange for your contribution, we offer a single, or shared double or triple, room for the duration of your stay (subject to availability, role and length of stay); two meals a day, prepared and cleaned up communally; full use of communal spaces and the garden; laundry facilities; and WiFi throughout the property.
Working hours. We ask for 4 hours of exchange work per day, 5 days a week. The nature of the work is varied and agreed week to week with you, in conversation. We believe in clear communication — if something isn't working, we say so early and kindly.
Trial period & notice. All stays begin with a 5-day trial. At the end of it we sit down together and talk about how it's felt for both sides — if we continue, we agree the shape of a longer stay at that point. During the trial, we ask for as much notice as possible on either side, with a minimum of one week where circumstances allow. Once a longer stay is agreed, a minimum of two weeks' notice is requested from either party.
Guests. Visitors are welcome — just have a brief conversation with us beforehand so the timing works for the house. This includes overnight guests; let us know. Guests staying more than one night are expected to join and help on the same terms.
Paid work & status. Opportunities for paid work may arise as the property develops. These are discussed openly and agreed separately, with fair terms for both sides — nothing is assumed or implied by this agreement. To volunteer you must have the right to work in Europe (volunteer work is classed this way). References are required to apply. Kindly note we cannot sponsor work visas.
By staying at Sanssouci Palatina under these terms, both parties agree to the spirit and the practical terms set out above. The full agreement is signed by both host and volunteer on arrival.
